A Day in Las Vegas

I was in Las Vegas, Nevada recently to attend to some matters that required my personal attention. There were quite a number of matters to attend to that I had to stay in town for a few days.

Anyway, I ended up staying in a hotel/casino that was right next to Steve Wynn's Wynn Las Vegas Casino.

The following is a photograph I took from my hotel room windown. It shows the Wynn and its sister casino, the Encore. The latter is nearing completion and is scheduled to open its doors to the public later this year.

While I was in town, the management at Encore announced that it was looking at filling up 5,300 positions in preparation for the casino's opening. Quite a hefty number of employment opportunities for one casino building. But everything has always been grand and ambitious in Las Vegas and the Encore is no exception.

Below is a photo of the same two buildings that I took from street level.

The following photo shows the swimming pools behind the Wynn Casino.

The following photo shows the 18-hole golf course run by the Wynn Casinos. Quite a piece of property. One can just imagine the amount of money that went and continues to go into the development of the entire Wynn casino and resort complex.

The last photo shows a shot of the mountains east of the city. This vantage point offered a beautiful view of the sunrise. Luckily, I'm an early riser and was able to admire the beauty of the sunrise every morning.

But being an early riser doesn't mean that my mental faculties rise with me for as you can see, I have no pictures of such sunrise to show you. :D

I love going to places like Las Vegas and Atlantic City in New Jersey. Although I do not consider myself a gambler, I enjoy watching people gamble and I also enjoy the various forms of entertainment that both places provide. I hate noise and crowds but a casino is one place where I don't mind hearing a lot of noise and seeing a lot of people having fun.

I used to frequent Atlantic City with my late uncle. He was an excellent three-card poker player and I remember the hours I used to spend just watching him play, hours that often extended into the wee hours of the morning. Plus, we always drank and ate well whenever we were at a casino. But now that he's gone, I don't think I'll be going back to such places anytime soon. It just won't be the same without him.

As for Mr. Wynn, you can read more about this casino developer here.

I'll be back in Vegas in May 2009 for Lea Salonga's concert. Hmmm, maybe I'll check out the "new" Wynn same design ng sa Macau) this time although I'm booked at the Bellagio already since gagayahin ko si Mr. Ocean. he-he.

I do like going to the casinos too once in a while. And those time I do I usually park my butt on the penny machine and watch my hard earned pennies disapppear in a matter of minutes :D

Now my hubby does not like casinos or gambling but he usually goes out of the casino with more money than when he comes in.

I am not too fond of Vegas because of the crowd, the noise, and the heat.

That's one place I'd love to visit, not for the casinos but for their famous buffets!

For such a big city, the second photo shows a surprisingly empty stretch of road.

I usually go to AC, but I am trying to get to Vegas before the end of the year. Found a nice informational video at AnswersTV.com which is worth a look for anyone planning a trip there soon.

I was just in my Earth Sciences class.... We just saw some overhead pics of Las Vegas. Shame. Since I was last in a classroom they have gotten rid of 3.5" discs, started having all online classes, and still, because i was in a hurry, the school in Sanmta Clara demanded 20 dollars for a transcript in a specially sealed envelope

Got a good vid clip today on my site... come on by

Prinsesamusang,

Indeed. Quite innovative. :)

Mitsuru,

Is that for Cinderella? I think they're about to complete their kickoff tour in Manila by the 24th of this month. I just don't know where they're going next. My sister said that she enjoyed the show a lot and CCP was packed.

I'm glad for you. The Bellagio is nothing short of awesome. Very nice choice!

Atticus,

Punta na! :)

Neuroticsister,

I'll try to post some night pics I took one of these days. :)

Photo Cache,

I think you need to tell your hubby to develop a liking for gambling since it seems to be boosting your family's net worth. Hehehe

Panaderos said...

Mon,

I love the buffets there and it is very difficult to control one's weight while in Vegas. Hehehe

Yeah, that was a rare sight on Vegas streets. There are usually tons of cars on its roads. Maybe it's because I took the picture around lunchtime and it was quite hot that day. The temperature was more than 100 degrees Fahrenheit.

Stacy,

I went to AC more often than Las Vegas because AC was only a couple hours' drive from home. But thanks for the tip. I'll check that site out.

Thanks for the visit. :)

Panaderos said...

Mari,

Thanks. I liked how both buildings stood right next to each other. Plus, I love glass buildings anyway and thus I immediately took a liking to both of them. Hehehe

I also enjoy watching the gamblers play and I also love the sound of money being won or being lost. Hehehe :D

Keith,

I'll check that video clip out. Thanks for the tip. :)

Wynn is expanding his gambling empire in Asia, he already has one in Macau and is soon to open one in Singapore if I'm not mistaken. Would you believe, when the first Vegas casino opened in Macau it surpassed the one year earnings of its sibling in LV in a matter of months. Shows you how big the gambling market is in Asia, particularly China.... mga sugarol kasi eh, hehe :-D

Nice pics.. Vegas is one heck of a job generator I can tell you :) Lst time I was there I stayed at MGM grand. 6,000 rooms was pretty intimidating and having 10,000 full staff working in the complex is like factory. One of a kind place :)

I'll going to Vegas soon !

parang kay sarap lakarin..kahit pala umaga maganda ang vegas kala ko sa gabi lang masarap pumasyal dyan.:)

Panaderos said...

Rudy,

That's true what you said about Wynn's casino's earnings in Macau surpassing its LV counterpart. But I think that's due to the limited number of competitors in the area when one compares it to Las Vegas. When I was in Macau last February, I only saw five huge Las Vegas-style casinos there and Wynn's was one of them. I think once more competitors come into that market, his casino's share of the revenues may decrease.

Panaderos said...

BW,

Great! I hope you go either in the spring or fall. Summers are very hot in Las Vegas for the temperature averages in the high 30s/low 40s Celsius. Even if it's dry heat, it's still hot enough to bother you.

But it is a great town to visit. 24-hour entertainment, Bro!

Panaderos said...

Daphne,

I sure hope that you and D get the chance to visit the place someday. It's worth it. And if you're not into casinos, the awesome Grand Canyon is within two hours' driving distance from Vegas.

Blogusvox Presley! Hahaha

Panaderos said...

Yvonne,

Thank you very much for the compliment. I ended up staying there for three days so I will be posting some more photos of the other sites in the coming days... or weeks. Hehehe

Panaderos said...

Dyosa,

As much as possible, avoid Las Vegas in the late June through September period. Too hot. As I had mentioned to one of the previous commenters above, the summer temperatures hover in the high 30s/low 40s Celsius. One can't really stay outdoors for more than half an hour without getting sunburned.

I hope you'll be able to reschedule your visit to Las Vegas soon. It's a fun place to visit. Thanks for visiting my site. Much appreciated. :)

Ever,

I've never been to Las Vegas but would love to go someday. This building looks very similar to the one in Macau.

Abaniko said...

It just occurred to me that the building structure of Wynn in Las Vegas is also the same as that in Macau.

So did you watch the famous Las Vegas show where the girls with humongous headdresses are showing their boobs onstage? :)

Panaderos said...

Em,

Yes indeed. The one in Macau was actually patterned after this building. I guess the casinos that will cary Wynn's name will all have the same look.

Panaderos said...

Abaniko,

Hahaha Unfortunately, I didn't get to watch any of those shows. I was pretty tied up with the stuff I had to attend to. I only had time to relax in the evenings but by then, I just decided to watch a couple of relatives gamble.

Such a nice view from your window, and all that you included is also a treat!

I've heard about the openings too from my brother who works at Casino Filipino hehe...guess employment ops travel fast there...

Panaderos said...

Mirage2g,

Thanks. Tell you bro to give it a shot. Who knows? He might get lucky enough to land a job there. There are a lot of Filipinos working out there. I don't think he'll get homesick.
