If you had noticed my avatar, you would rightly conclude that I am a big Beatles fan. I am. They rose to worldwide fame way before I was born and their fame was at its height during my toddler years. I only became a fan in my early elementary years long after the band had broken up.
I still remember the exact moment when I got turned on to the Beatles. It was on a weekday afternoon after coming home from school. I was in first grade then. One of the TV stations, RPN-9, had a daily afternoon feature called "Daily Matinee" where they showed foreign movies from 1 pm to 3 pm. I had just finished my lunch when I decided to turn the tv on. A voice on the tv announced that for that afternoon, they were featuring a movie called "A Hard Day's Night". I had no idea what it was about but decided to tune in. The following scene was what greeted me:
Just a bit of trivia: One of the many fans on the film running after the Beatles is a young Phil Collins. Quite hard to spot but he's there. :)

I've seen this granddaddy of music videos and the subsequent follow up movie, "Help!" many times over the years, and I still couldn't spot Phil Collins in the crowd. I did get a glimpse actress Charlotte Rampling though... ;-)
I saw a documentary on the movie a few years ago. It's quite impossible to spot Phil Collins in this opening scene. However, the documentary did show him in the concert scene towards the movie's end. He was also interviewed for the same documentary.
Nandiyan pala si Charlotte Rampling. I should check the video again. Hehehe
honestly i thought i have a handsome new blogfriend...hehehehe. but i was thinking he looks like one of the Fab 4! :)
i love the Fab 4! i couldn't see the video. not your fault. you know i live in the rainforest. rich but not so rich in tech. :(
thanks for the visit. :)
"I was never the same afterwards."
I guess you were not the only one..
The Beatles is legendary. Till now, a number of music lovers still admire them, even young ones.
Hi Ipanema,
I used to look like him (in my dreams). Hehehe
The pleasure's all mine. Glad to see you back!
Sidney,
Yeah, I'm probably one of millions. The music left quite a lasting impression on me and that's an understatement.
Abaniko,
Funny but your comment reminded me of a friend from high school. He called me one day to tell me that his three sons are into the Beatles' music and that reminded him of me. :)
I will be photographing a "Beatles Replica" band on Feb. 9th.
They are called "The Rubber Souls"
They are renound for their exactness of replication.
I'll hit you with some photos after the event!
Hi Suzanne,
Great! I'll look forward to them. Thank you very much for the heads up. :)
I have seen this movie and Help with my dad who took me as I was just a toddler then. Poor guy. He was sleeping all throughout the movie.
Hi Rolly,
Like most of his generation, he must have found it boring. Too bad for them. Hahaha Actually, it was also through RPN-9's Daily Matinee that I saw a rerun of Help a year or so later. Great movie too. :)
I cannot say that I'm a fan but I like their music. I was never exposed to beatles music as a kid since my dad always played sinatra, crosby, andy williams, sammy davis and ray conniff music. I'm a fan of mcartney's music when he went solo though.
I never get tired of the Beatles man. McCartney, Lennon and Harrison are musicians par excellence. There was just too much talent in that group :)
I have the Beatles Anthology DVD and the reason why they didn't play anymore after John Lennon died was because of utter respect and love for the man. Simply put, if one of them is missing, they can't be the Beatles any more.
Mon,
McCartney's songs from the early 70s were very good, especially the songs from his album, Band On The Run. He also wrote the theme to the James Bond movie "Live And Let Die". He and his band, Wings, had a number of very good songs during that time.
bw,
Sadly, my version of the Beatles Anthology is still in VHS. I went out and got them as soon as they came out back in 1995. I should upgrade them to DVD.
There hasn't been a band since that could match the quality of their songs and their productivity. The Beatles were prolific. They released two albums per year as compared to the current crop of artists who release one album every two years, at the most. Even with that, the quality of their songs still can't match up to what the Beatles produced.
