As they've done in previous Presidential campaigns, the people behind Saturday Night Live (SNL) launched the first of their Update Thursday Specials this week to tap on the wealth of comedic material both campaigns have been providing.
Last night, they showed their parody of Tuesday night's debate between Senators McCain and Obama. The parody focuses on the rather awful way Mr. Tom Brokaw (former NBC News anchor) selected the questions and moderated the debate. The parody was based on the fact that right after the debate, a lot of news and political analysts complained that the questions Mr. Brokaw picked were predictable and that the candidates' answers to the questions revealed no new information about their personalities and their campaign proposals. In addition, Mr. Brokaw was rather strict with the time he allowed for each candidate to speak. Anyway, here's the SNL skit:
It seems that the pop duo of Daryl Hall and John Oates also got into a little musical debate about their respective choices for President:

The humor at SNL is often very intelligent and relevant. That they can make fun of their political leaders without fear is a great example of true freedom of speech.

A lot of our "honorable" politicians do take their titles and themselves seriously, don't they? Unfortunately, their collective performance in government does not provide us with a lot of reason to take them seriously.
I am no fan of GMA. In fact, I think she ranks as one of the worst Presidents we've had. However, with a financial crisis that's wreaking havoc on a global scale, members of the opposition are still focusing their taxpayer-funded time and effort on filing impeachment charges against her. I guess those idiots think that kicking GMA out of office is of greater importance than passing laws that will prevent our country from falling into an economic depression.

Hahaha Politicians do make fools out of themselves just to win votes. They say things they think voters want to hear even if they know that they have no intention of fulfilling such promises.
In the current Presidential campaign, Obama won't respond to questions about his past associates with questionable characters. He quickly dumped a pastor who had been his close friend for more than 20 years because of his pastor's anti-American statements. McCain who has been a supporter of pro-environment causes was quick to support offshore oil drilling just to gain support from conservatives within his party. These are just a few examples. There are more and there will be more to come.

Tama ka diyan, Pards. Pareho lang ang mga kalokohan ng mga iyan. There are only two main differences. First is that elections in the US have managed to stay relatively clean and thus American politicians know that they risk losing an election and they also risk going to jail if they get involved in corruption and sex scandals. Second is that they're a lot more productive when compared to Filipino senators and congressmen in passing important laws that the country needs to resolve problems and to prosper.

I agree with JJ, aka Atticus. Dito, puro balat-sibuyas ang mga mambabatas natin. They really believe that they are above everything and are "untouchable", therefore di pwedeng biruin. It's like they have this 2X2 stuck up their asses all the time...

Siguro balat-sibuyas ang iba sa kanila kasi they know they're "in public service" mainly to amass wealth. The years they've spent in power, whether at the local or national level, were spent to simply protect their vested interests. That's why some of these people don't think twice in ordering the murder of their political opponents.

McCain's campaign is in shambles right now. Confusion is reigning in his camp and he's caused a lot of it. It looks pretty certain now that Obama will win and he may even win in a mini-landslide.

I had great expectations for the two contending candidates yet the debates were just dry and uneventful. Perhaps it's due to the recnt financial crisis that's bugging America. But overall, it's a letdown.
Sky is the limit on throwing parody at these politicians ! I hope Darry Hall and John Oates approved of using their persons in this satire :)

The debates have indeed been dry. So far, we have not heard anything new from both candidates that they haven't already said in their campaign speeches. People need more insight into these guys' characters. That's where Tom Brokaw did an awful job as moderator because people didn't learn anything new about McCain and Obama in that debate.

You're right. Ang kaigihan lang dito sa States, at kahit na sa Europe, e politicians can take a joke. It's very rare for people to resort to violence just to settle scores. Tagisan ng talino at abilidad ang umiiral. Hindi takutan at patayan.
