McCain finally got a much needed campaign "boost" from the President last night.

Satirists often provide a good gauge of the public mood. Senator McCain has indeed tried his very best to distance himself from the President Bush since the beginning of the year. However, except for a few good weeks for him in late August through early September largely brought about by "Palin Mania", his awful handling of his campaign, the Palin candidacy, and his continued failure to sell his tax proposals are all helping to pave the road for an Obama landslide victory in less than a couple of weeks.
Sorry, Mr. McCain.

McCain missed his chances. Too bad. His choice of Plain as VP was his campaign's biggest blunder. He even alienated a lot of Republicans with this move.

I thought Palin was such a big distraction. Major mistake in the McCain camp.
No endorsement needed. We all know they're of the same political stripe. Moreover, if you're McCain, don't need a president with the lowest approval rating to endorse you :)
What else is next ? Al Sharpton will be a cabinet minister and so will Jesse Jackson. Colin Powell is free to choose his portfolio - he's friggin' special. What about Oprah Winfey and Spike Lee ? And Charles Barkley?

The polls has Obama pulling away from McCain at a comfortable distance. But just how that will translate to an actual vote still remains to be seen.

i agree. mccain's biggest error is palin.
it also offends me and other women like me who struggle to be taken seriously in every facet of life.

It's hurting him big time now that the global recession and the financial crisis have become the biggest issues and concerns for the American voter. Issues related to the economy have long been his weaknesses as far as knowledge and expertise are concerned. He would have been much better off had he chosen another person, someone like Romney, who has a deep knowledge about the economy as his running mate. McCain's now paying the price for his Palin "gamble".

If the economy wasn't an issue this year, the McCain-Palin ticket could have had a better chance of winning. However, given McCain's age, people are worried about Palin's inexperience.

It will be a huge mistake for many within the African-American community to think that they deserve preferential treatment in an Obama administration. I don't believe Obama will give them that priviledge because if he does, he risks alienating the rest of the population.

Based on past US elections, you have a point. Once they are in the privacy of the polling booth, it's still a guess as to who they'll pull the lever for. Thus, there is a very big possibility that the election may still turn out to be a lot closer than what the polls currently suggest.

Prior to having Palin on his ticket, McCain was having problems attracting big crowds to his campaign rallies. His "maverick" style of politics earned him the ire of many from within his own party. As a result, he did not have a lot of support within the conservative Republican base. The Palin nomination was aimed to garnering the support of that base.
However, he should have nominated someone who had more substantial political experience. Palin has been of no help to him ever since economic issues have come front and center in the campaign. Like him, she doesn't have expertise on economic matters. He's paying the price for this blunder.
Palin a mistake ? When it comes politics, anyone who can peel votes from the opposition is good medicine. Palin does exactly that! She is the best thing that happened to John McCain! I mean seriously, if DAN QUAYLE became VP of George Bush Sr, anyone can run for VP LOL ! How come no one challenged that guy?
Palin is a legit governor and she knows how to run a state. Governors became president - Carter, Reagan, Clinton, Bush knew dick about foreign policy and a little of state economics yet they became presidents. A state mimicks in a small way the country with its won legislative, judicial and executive govts. Many people who say Palin is crap don't even understand this.
You are right bro that TODAY, no one in the Republican roster can possibly interest people to vote for McCain if not for Palin ! And it follows of course, what better way to defeat McCain than assassinate Palin's character. That's just the nature of politics. I think the democrats are quite successful with their character assassination of Palin.
BTW Oprah is a huuge contributor of Obama. Methinks Obama couldn't simply ignore her. Oh well, that democracry in the works the say hehe :)

Just an aside - in the recent federal election here In Canada, the Conservatives won but with a minority govt though. People just had enough with the green shift, carbon taxes crap :)

A number of conservatives have resigned themselves now to an Obama presidency. However, Obama should realize that the American electorate, as a whole, leans right of center. It would be a mistake for him to interpret that his election would signify a mandate for him to take the country leftward politically. For all the voters' talk of a need to regulate industry, Americans still overwhelmingly prefer a capitalist system to a socialist one that's championed in Europe.
Bill Clinton tried to take the country left after his election in 1992. It was a disaster for it handed control of both the US Senate and House of Representatives to the Republicans in the 1994 elections. Obama ought to revisit that part of Democratic Party history.
election is just around the corner. this would be interesting. as for mccain, there's been a lot of negativity going around the media. won't be surprised if obama bags the presidency... but who knows? could be mac, too.
I think for this reason, and all the campaign was a lot of public strategy. In the end, became a mistake without knowing it.

That should be that uneasy moment that i was anticipating all year long, whether or not W. would feel comfportable enough to publicly announce his support for John McCain or not; and whether or not the GOP would just want to do away with it.

Pan, I went to hear mass this morning. The priest, in his sermon, mentioned about his classmate before who is now in U.S asking for a prayer for the voters on the coming election to choose wisely esp. on the kind of leader who knows how to respect human lives and would never adhere esp. on abortion. Because a leader who knows how to respect human lives, all good things about him esp. the in decision-making for his country and people will also follow.

Yeah, McCain did make a mistake there. Actually, he did commit several mistakes over the course of his campaign and he's now paying the price for them.

Hahaha In fairness, McCain and W never really liked each other. McCain gave W some headaches because McCain went against some of Bush's programs. McCain was pro-environment while Bush wasn't. McCain was for reducing lobbyists' influence on politicians while Bush was for the status quo. McCain being a "W clone" was just a label the Obama camp came up with for the sake of politics.
